Each year, companies large and small partner with Plan’s Because I am a Girl initiative to make a difference in the lives of girls. There are several ways your business can support Because I am a Girl:
- Sponsor a community in Hatibandha, Bangladesh and help develop sustainable, community-led programs that will significantly improve the quality of life for girls and their families.
- Support a girl-themed project by funding scholarships for girls, the construction of a new school or maternal health centres, and a wide range of other projects.
- Give a Gift of Hope to show employee appreciation, recognize length of service, and generate goodwill with customers, suppliers and the local community.

Plan Canada thanks the generous support of the following organizations and individuals for their support of the Because I am a Girl initiative:
Sears Canada works in partnership with Plan Canada by donating proceeds from the net sales of their trendy girls brand called “Girl Confidential” in support of Because I am a Girl. To date they have raised over $225,000. The clothing line is designed for girls ages 6-12 and is on sale in Sears stores across Canada.
Ardene, a Canadian accessories and apparel retailer and Plan’s Because I am a Girl have partnered to highlight the importance of education for girls both at home and abroad. Ardene launched their “LINK TO LOVE” program, encouraging Canadian girls to purchase specially branded friendship bracelets with proceeds from the sales of the $5 bracelet being directed to girls’ education projects.
This campaign raised $35,000 helping 640 Honduran children through a school build, filling classrooms with everything needed to spark young minds.
To thank Canadian girls for purchasing a bracelet, Ardene also launched an online contest on their Facebook page to win a $5,000 scholarship directly from Ardene to put towards their education. A winner was chosen when the contest closed on October 11, 2013 and rewarded this scholarship.
Canadian denim brand Second Denim has teamed up with Jean Machine to launch Denim for Hope, a new charitable initiative aimed at helping Plan’s Because I am a Girl initiative.
Known for its super comfy, yet stylish Yoga jeans, Second Denim has created two styles of jeans for Denim for Hope. The jeans will be sold exclusively at Canadian retailer Jean Machine in stores across Ontario. Each pair features a signature Denim For Hope label with heart detail.
Jeans are in stores now and 10% of every purchase will go towards supporting Because I am a Girl.
The Dove Self-Esteem Project works in collaboration with Plan Canada's Because I am a Girl initiative in an ongoing effort to positively impact the lives of girls. With help from developmental experts and research conducted by The Dove Self-Esteem Project, together, the organizations have developed and distributed self-esteem building resources including Mentors Matter and Me, Myself and I activities.
In 2011, together, through the smartgirls challenge, Jenn Heil, Because I am a Girl and glacéau smartwater reached out to Canadians to show how they’ve made a difference in the lives of girls and women. Three winners were selected to join Jenn Heil on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Rwanda in August 2011 to help celebrate the building of a new school for girls.
In March 2012, the smartgirls challenge was launched for a second year, asking girls to show them how an influential woman in their life has inspired them to be a smartgirl. Winners selected were taken on an adventure of a lifetime to Tanzania in July 2012 with Because I am a Girl ambassador Rosey Edeh to celebrate a new community maternal health clinic for moms and their babies.
In 2010 Birks hosted A Night for Girls to Shine event in support of the Because I am a Girl initiative. On October 11, 2012 Birks hosted a second fundraiser in celebration of the International Day of the Girl in support of another project in Burkina Faso aimed at improving access to formal and non-formal education, with a specific focus on girls.
Birks also donates a portion of sales of Jenn Heil's Dream Pendant and Butterfly Pendant, items she designed in collaboration with the jeweler especially for the Because I am a Girl initiative. The pendants are sold through Plan Canada's Gifts of Hope and in BIRKS stores across Canada
The Home Smart initiative is a two year pledge of $50,000 focusing on the Girls and Women of Hatibandha, Bangladesh in support of educational, health and infrastructure initiatives.
By hiring HomeSmart for services, a percentage of proceeds will be donated to Plan Canada’s Community sponsorship in Hatibandha, Bangladesh.
Stork Babies, miniature bean dolls all come with their own unique names, place of origin, fun facts and empowering sayings.The hope is that parents take the time and talk to their children about the empowering and/or positive saying that comes with each doll.
Proceeds from each sale helps to support Plan Canada’s Because I am a Girl initiative.
